| Foreclosures in Mich. decline
Foreclosures in Michigan may have hit their peak and finally be heading downward, new data released Tuesday suggests. That would be a welcome development in a state that has endured one of the worst economic downturns and most severe housing slumps in decades. A decline in foreclosures would be a first step, albeit small, to a real estate recovery that experts predict could take several years. Michigan foreclosure filings in January declined 7.03 percent compared to the same month a year ago, to 10,746, according to RealtyTrac, a Irvine, Calif.-based firm that tracks foreclosure numbers. In Metro Detroit -- encompassing Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Livingston counties -- filings declined 23 percent year over year. .
The Trauma Of Disengagement - Divorced Dads, Child Custody in Israel
Jerusalem----August 14...... In the hours to come, thousands of Israelis will be forced to leave their homes in Gaza. Whether you are for or against the Disengagement Plan in Israel - it's going to happen and many tears will be shed. But there is another "disengagement" going on in Israel every day. Not by Zionists being removed from their biblical land, but rather by fathers being torn away from their children. I was evicted from my home in Israel. I can understand what many will experience in Gaza, in Israel as they are pulled out of their living rooms, bedrooms and playrooms where they spent so much time hearing their children laugh, sing and watching them dance. Fathers are evicted from their homes in Israel every day based on false charges of violence or sexual harassment to their wives.
Hit-run cyclist was new to Sydney
THE cyclist killed in yesterday's hit-run crash in Punchbowl has been revealed as an Egyptian national who only arrived in Sydney recently. Police would not confirm the name but The Daily Telegraph Online understands the rider was Mina Ayad Wahba. The 30-year-old is understood to be a student. A group of friends left a bouquet of flowers at the scene this morning to mark his death. Police have confirmed they are still hunting the driver of a medium to large sized truck believed to have killed the cyclist in a crash on Wattle St at 7.45am yesterday. Acting Senior Sergeant John Kelly said the injuries were "quite horrific''. The impact appeared to have been so great that Mr Wahba's helmet was ripped from his head.
Letters to the editor, January 22
I yawned at John Crane because he should just cut and paste his previous letters to the editor. They have all said what he said in this one. Yes, these are facts...there is history...before 9-11 we really did not have a clue about the Muslim faith because we are a country that does what to reach out and help everyone. We are a great country, the greatest in the world. We know what country these terrorists came from but they were not living there , they were in other countries, like Germany. It is not the geographical location that is the problem, it is the mindset of taking over the world. We do not see the same things the President sees, he has to reach out to Arabia because the Democrats would not allow him to drill for oil here 8 years ago! The liberals will not rest until they run this country into the ground.
10 years for driver who bragged of taking out 'treehugger cyclist'
A drunk-driver who killed a cyclist has been sentenced to ten years in prison in the US, after the judge heard a recorded jail conversation in which she laughed about "taking out a tree hugger, a bicyclist, a Frenchman and a gay guy all in one shot." Melissa Arrington, 27, a barmaid and exotic dancer from Tucson, Arizona, could have received as few as four years behind bars after she killed cyclist Paul L'Ecuyer while driving under the influence on the night of December 1, 2006. Instead, she was sentenced to 10 years - one year shy of the maximum prison term for negligent homicide - after the judge heard a telephone conversation between her and a male friend one week after L'Ecuyer was killed. During the conversation, the man told Arrington that an acquaintance believed she should get a medal and a parade because she had "taken out a tree hugger, a bicyclist, a Frenchman and a gay guy all in one shot." .
