| Winter storms at both ends of the country dump snow, snarl travel
CHICAGO (AP) — Winter storms at both ends of the country dumped snow and snarled air and land travel Friday, killing at least 10 people, blocking major highways and even stranding 400 train passengers in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Nearly 7 1/2 inches of snow was reported at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport before the front moved out of the area Friday. About 500 flights were canceled at O'Hare, which canceled 600 flights Thursday and housed hundreds of stranded travelers who spent the night awaiting planes from other cities also affected by the storm. At least 12 inches of snow was reported in Springfield by Friday morning, said National Weather Service meteorologist Gino Izzi. Other parts of Illinois saw similar amounts. "If you don't have to be out here, don't," Ty Wilson, a very wet Chicago bicycle messenger, said as he stopped along a slushy street between morning deliveries.
Fort Bragg Training Rocks Moore County
Loud booms are not as unusual as residents around Southern Pines might have thought Thursday evening when Fort Bragg training lit up the night sky. "It was just usual training exercises," said Sgt. Jessica Fimbres, a public affairs officer (PAO) on the base. "I checked with Range Control, and that's all it was." The booms seemed louder than normal to folks headed to the annual Spelling Bee at the Sunrise Theater on Thursday night. Local residents have been used to loud noises the Army calls "the sound of freedom" since the 8-inch so-called "atomic cannon" was deployed back in the 1950s. It is no longer in use on the base. A 105-mm Howitzer has succeeded it, according to Paul Pomacelli, a civilian air traffic controller who works at Fort Bragg. "Troops are coming .

Clinton campaign starts 5-point attack on Obama
I don't want it to become a situation where the candidates lose supporters if one or the other don't get the nomination. Because, I'm a democrat and I believe we should work together to win the race against the republican candidates. I understand there are differences in the candidates and that's why we must vote, but don't let a loss of one candidate prevent giving the support to the winning democratic candidate because it's only going to hurt us, the democrats. I support Obama's call for change and believe in him. I have news of Hillary's financial irresponsibility and don't think she'd make a great leader due to the fact that we need someone who in financially stable. There are many other reasons why I feel that Barack Obama is a better candidate. Nevertheless, we as democrats need to vote to help choose the best democrat for President.
University of Akron officials market Quaker Square Inn as distinctive ...
From her new, circular dormitory room at the University of Akron, Becky Stanic has a skyline view of East Akron. ''It's like a dream,'' the painting major said with enthusiasm amid a mass of clothing and DVDs that she was moving into her room last week. ''It's so beautiful. Moving over here is a little bit more luxury than I'm used to.'' Stanic is one of the 206 UA students now living at Quaker Square, the shopping, dining, office and hotel complex that UA bought in November for $22.7 million from hotelier Jay Nusbaum. While the complex has had a storied life as an oatmeal plant and then as a tourist destination, this semester it's starting another chapter — part public facility and part dormitory called Quaker Square Inn. For more than a quarter-century, Quaker Square's old grain silos have housed an eight-story hotel.
