Universal brotherhood prevails at SGPC press

The capacity of SGPCs Golden Printing Press at Gurdwara Ramsar here is likely to be doubled soon. It supplies Sikh devotees all over the world with holy birs of Guru Granth Sahib.

The press prints less than 40,000 birs in a year while the demand is much more. Chief of the SGPC Jathedar Avtar Singh, who took up the matter with the state and centre governments to impose a ban on the publication and sale of the Guru Granth Sahib by private publishers and booksellers, has said the capacity of the press would be doubled shortly.

He said a new press would be established where holy birs would be published as per Sikh maryada. The process to publish the birs was lengthy since these were published keeping in view the Sikh traditions, he added.

True to the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib, which preaches universal brotherhood, the publication of the birs in the press is being looked after by the machine men and workers who are mostly non-Sikhs from Nepal, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Bihar, UP, New Delhi and other states.

Balochistan police is deeply concerned by the unregulated system of providing Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards to customers, the IG told reporters at a press conference.

The police department has continuously been requesting concerned government authorities to deal with the issue, but no encouraging steps have been taken so far, he said.

Ankeny to Woodward trail gets DOT money

Ames, Ia. - The Iowa Transportation Commission awarded a state grant of $565,960 today to pay for construction on a key stretch of a planned 25-mile recreational trail between Ankeny and Woodward.

The state money will be used for work on a 5.25-mile section between Madrid and Woodward, including a bridge over the Des Moines River, state officials said.

When the project is completed, the multi-use trail will link Ankeny, Sheldahl, Slater, Madrid, and Woodward, extending through parts of four counties as part of the proposed Central Iowa Trail Loop. The corridor was purchased by the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation two years ago from the Union Pacific Railroad.

A section of the trail in Ankeny is now open to the public, and another stretch in the Woodward area will open this fall, said Rich Voelker of Snyder & Associates, who is the lead engineer for the trail project.

Thanks for the mammaries

Not on the side of milk cartons but in the wacky world of cyberspace, where nothing is ever too cockamamie to consider.

An online website is bringing flat-chested women and mammary-minded men of a charitable nature together for mutually beneficial purposes. The dames want implants; the gents want pictures. Quid pro quo.

Aye, it's a sad state of affairs – the haves versus the have-nots – when poor girls must go begging, little brassiere cups in hand, for breast enhancement surgery. But with kidneys and other human organs available through the black market of human spare parts, at least these supplicants are upfront about it.
